Motivation – Your Best Life ///

Motivation ///

Motivation is a funny thing.  We often talk about it with the assumption others understand our meaning.  It’s easy to think about motivation in a general sense.  The reality is motivation is vague on its best day.  One of those words defined by itself:  Always fun when you look up a word only to find the definition include the word you are looking up.

In thinking about it, we all have different motivations.  Motivations to act.  Reasons we want to achieve.  Things that drive us to places we want to be.  Motivations are both goal oriented and action oriented.  The idea of motivation is so broad that it is impossible for many to find the true motivations that move them.

Thus, I wanted to write a bit about my motivations.  The things that drive me long term and today.  There is a lot of stuff out there to help people find what motivates them.  So, this isn’t intended to be motivational.  The idea is to share different ways and help each other get to a place where we live the life we our best lives.

My View of Motivation ///

I see motivation as a place of action that drives us to live the best life we can live.  Life is such a long journey that goes by quickly.  We only get one and we spend a lot of time trying to figure it out.  Often we get caught looking at other’s achievements as our motivations.  Other’s way of life as the idea we think we want.  It really is hard to look at oneself and ask: Who is the best me? What is the best life I can live?

Lately I have been working hard to be the best me and live the best life I can.  Some days it is a grind.  Not always easy to achieve goals.  It isn’t an easy effort every moment to get done what needs to get done.

My Motivations ///

I want to be in great shape.  I want to have my own company that thrives.  My goal is to be the best dad.  Working to be the best husband.  In there I like to enjoy what the world can show me.

To motivate me to achieve these motivations, I have some great influences.  My daughter; my wife; recorded speeches; Rodney; our guests.  The list of motivating factors isn’t long.  But, these things are what help me get up and live the best life I can live.

My motivations aren’t about being a millionaire, a CEO, or an athlete.  Or many of the things that I have learned I should be motivated to achieve.  They are the things I aspire to be. The things that will allow me to look back and say I lived the life I wanted to live.  Even with a bump, a turn, or 1,000 of each along the way.

Why share? ///

I have recently started to think a lot about motivation.  Not just what motivates me, but what motivates others.  We all have different things that we strive for and that get us out of bed.  I believe, if we all live the best life we can, we will all be better together.  And it isn’t easy.  It requires daily motivation.  Achievement, regardless of what it is, takes effort.  In that effort, we realize our purpose and we grind through to the next day.  Ultimately to look back and say you did it.  You lived the life you wanted to live.

Purpose ///

In this I ask you:  What life do you want to live?  Are you living it?  Is it just a dream?  What can you do TODAY to build one step toward that life?

It isn’t too late.  You aren’t too old.  You haven’t made all the bad decisions.  It’s a choice.  And in that choice, here are a few different things that could help you.  Maybe it is a quote…maybe it is a book…maybe it is your kids…or your spouse…or parents…or dog…or the big house down the street…or maybe it is one of the videos I listen to every day to keep me focused.

Action ///

I share these because they have helped me or they help others.  Simply to anchor on action to be the best you can be each and every day:

  • Quotes:

    • “The secret to getting ahead is getting started.”  – Mark Twain

    • “Never let what you cannot do interfere with what you can.” – John Wooden

    • “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”― Muhammad Ali

    • “You’re not the product of your circumstance but rather a product of your decisions.” –Stephen Covey

    • The Man who says he can, and the man who says he cannot.. Are both correct” – Confucius

    • “Fear that keeps you from letting go and achieving your potential is poisonous.” – Navy Seal Brandon Webb

  • Videos I watch:

  • Books I have read that have actually helped me:

**Books aren’t top of my list for motivation.  However, they may be for you.  Leave a comment with a quote, a video, a book or anything else that helps you keep going.  The thing that helps you keep on the path of living your best life.
